Bayern Munich did not get past a 1-1 draw against a fierce Union Berlin on Saturday, which could mean the loss of the lead against Bayer Leverkusen if they defeat Hoffenheim on Sunday.
The Bavarians, for the moment, remain leaders by better goal difference, although tied on points with RB Leipzig.
The Union made things difficult for Bayern from the beginning. The first minute of the game had not yet passed when, after a loss of the ball by Bayern near the center line, the Union had the first chance. Awoniyi came to the finish and Manuel Neuer, with a good save, had to give up for a corner.
The play was revealed as a declaration of intent. The second corner kick in favor of Unión came shortly after and ended in a goal from Grischa Prömel, who received it at the first post and combed the ball to the second to leave Neuer without an option.
Bayern still had not shot on goal and had not even approached the opposite area and was already behind on the scoreboard.
The Union continued to be aggressive, giving Bayern few spaces and looking to fabricate backlash chances.
The ball was from Bayern, but the best arrivals were from the Union. In the 22nd, in a counterattack, Awoniyi, who was a nightmare for Alphonso Davies, was close to second.
Bayern was slow to manufacture arrivals. The first approach was in minute 8, when Serge Gnabry wasted inside the area with poor control a great pass from Robert Lewandowski and did not reach the shot.
In the 24th it was Lewandowski who did not finish when he fell in the area, due to a contact from the rival that the VAR did not consider enough to indicate the white point
There were only two chances in the first half for Bayern and both with shots from outside the area. One from Alaba, at 33, which passed close by and another from Gnabry at 43, which goalkeeper Fabian Luthe cleared with his fists.
Bayern’s pressure increased in the second half, although every time the Union advanced it carried danger.
The tie came in the 67th minute, with a shot by Lewandowski from the center of the area after a great play by Coman who had won the baseline after leaving two opponents in the way and entering the area.
In 90 Bayern had the winning goal close when Luthe reacted with a great save to a shot with the back of Leroy Sané.
