Qualification for the Americas will now be two play-off matches. First, the two 2021 champions from Rugby Americas North and South America Rugby will play home and away to determine Americas 1, the top spot in the region. The losing cast will enter the Americas 2 play-off.
In turn, the two 2021 runners-up in North and South America will play at home and away to qualify for the Americas 2 play-off. The winner, based on the total score from both matches, will qualify for the World Cup Rugby 2023 as Americas 2 and the losing team will enter the Final Qualification Tournament.
In this way, Uruguay and Chile have chances to enter the dreaded Group A with France, New Zealand and Italy or Group D with The Pumas, England or Japan.
In case of not qualifying as Americas 1 or Americas 2, Uruguay and Chile will have the possibility to play the Final Qualification Tournament and enter Group C with Wales, Australia, Fiji and Europe 1.
