Lewis Hamilton champion of the 2020 season of the Formula 1 and equaled an impressive record. The Briton reached seven world titles in Michael Schumacher, standing next to the ‘Kaiser’, as the biggest winners in history. However, Hamilton did not want to stay there. It equalized and pulverized several more records, remaining in the history of the category.
This led a few weeks ago to think of paying him a more than special tribute in his country. He British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC), is a more than exclusive club to which only British racing drivers are invited. This club was commissioned to perform an incredible tribute to the seven-time champion.
As of the 2021 season, the Silverstone, he will have a very particular change in his pit lane. The route from the last corner, to the end of the main straight, through pit lane, will be called ‘Hamilton Straight’, in honor of the pilot of Mercedes. This was communicated by the BRDC President, the former Formula 1 driver, David Coulthard.
“I was delighted, as BRDC President, to share this news with Lewis today. It is the first time in Silverstone’s history that a part of the circuit bears the name of a person, ”Coulthard said at the Yas Marina circuit, after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Coulthard was in Formula 1 from 1994 to 2008, when he retired in Red Bull.
“Lewis has become a big part of this story, and the Club directors and I felt there was no better way to remember that than to change the name of the home stretch in recognition of his achievements and his records,” added the Scottish. Since his arrival in Formula 1, Hamilton has achieved 6 victories at Silverstone and adding 11 podiums.
