Chelsea lost again for the second day in a row after falling 2-1 to Wolverhampton on the hour.
Wolverhampton is gradually learning to play without Raúl Jiménez and presented a tough match to Chelsea, who, despite keeping pace with the game and controlling the ball, had hardly any scoring chances.
In the first the main action was a shot by Pedro Neto that Edouard Mendy tapped out and a header to the crossbar by Kurt Zouma just before the break.
In the second half there were more occasions, like the one that caused the Chelsea goal. Ben Chilwell’s cross, Giroud’s left volley and Rui Patricio couldn’t save the ball over the line.
Far from shielding themselves behind with the advantage, Chelsea conceded spaces to Wolves, who approached Mendy’s goal and achieved the equalizer with a Podence wonder.
The Portuguese attacker fired two threats in front of Chilwell and Zouma and, after the third, he signed a shot that went into the near post of Mendy.
Chelsea escaped another blow when the VAR reversed a penalty in favor of Wolves, but Pedro Neto scored in the last minute of added time with a low cross shot and defined the game.
In this way, the Blues accumulate two consecutive falls, placing fifth with 22 points and moving away from the leadership of the Premier.
Wolves, meanwhile, is ninth, with 20 units.
