Hurricane vs. River Plate - Game Report - December 20, 2020

River Plate beat Huracán 3-1 at Parque Patricios and climbed to the top of Group A of the Maradona Cup Champion Phase.

With four points, he shares the first place together with Boca and Argentinos Juniors.

After qualifying for the semifinals of CONMEBOL Libertadores with the 6-2 win against Nacional de Montevideo, the Millionaire made a great first half against Huracán, imposed his conditions and left the Globe without the possibility of repeating the comeback he had achieved against to Independent, in the past date.

Marcelo Gallardo made the same headlines that beat the Uruguayans in the week. In the first minutes, beyond the high pressure of River, there was a round trip, with situations for both teams.

Huracán generated the first with a header from Lucas Merolla, who went close to Armani’s far post, and then Santiago Hezze had another chance with a shot that came out weak and went into the hands of the national goalkeeper.

In the first half Jorge Carrascal was again very active, with touches of good play and precise passes. In the 11th minute, he dominated a cross after a corner kick and shot hard on goal, but the shot was rejected almost on the goal line.

From that moment River began to dominate the actions. At 26 minutes, Montiel enabled Angeleri on the left and after a good cross by Santos Borré, Matías Suárez pirouetted to connect the ball at the far post and open the scoring.

The goal caused the total domination of the millionaire and at 33, also from the left, De la Cruz threw a poisonous cross that the forwards failed to connect, and that got into Cambeses’ far post to seal a justified 2 to 0.

Once again with a high performance, the team that Gallardo planted did not seem to miss Enzo Pérez, who has already recovered from coronavirus and would return next week, nor Nacho Fernández, who suffers from low back pain.

In the complement River tried to continue with high pressure, and the Globe came out determined to seek the discount. The match was made back and forth. Damonte sent Bonifacio to the court, which gave the Globe more presence on the left wing. And with centers, the danger began to reach the Armani area.

At 15 minutes, Chávez had a head chance that went wide. The Globe matched the process, although in each against River it seemed to be close to the third.

Hurricane continued betting on the centers, Cordero lowered it to Briasco and the Chilean Paulo Díaz raised his leg in a dangerous way. Although he did not touch the striker, Germán Delfino scored a penalty and Commander Chávez converted the discount.

Toranzo managed the times and Huracán was for equality. After an overflow on the right, Armani starred in a controversial play: the goalkeeper dangerously collided with Briasco when the forward was about to score a tie inside the small area. But this time, Delfino let go.

Gallardo sent Santiago Sosa to the field and removed Suárez, in a change that sought to join lines and return to the dominance of the first half. And near the end, De la Cruz sealed it 3-1 with a great shot at the goalkeeper’s near post.

Despite the joy of the victory, River was left with a bitter taste due to the expulsion of Paulo Díaz for a double yellow. But the truth is that Gallardo’s team does not stop winning. And next Sunday he will seek to close with another victory this 2020, when he receives Arsenal.
