Former national tennis player Marcelo Ríos turned 45 today and among the many greetings from the world of sports, the ATP did not want to be less and greeted the player who reached number 1 in the world in 1998.
“Congratulations, Marcelo Rios! Have a great day ”, was the association’s message through its Twitter account in Spanish, tagging the former athlete. I also remember the circuit for being the first Latin American tennis player to reach the top of the world ladder.
In 10 years of career, “Chino” Ríos won 18 ATP titles, played in the Masters tournament, being eliminated in the first round; and an Australian Open final. Despite not winning as many titles as another southpaw, the Spanish Rafael Nadal, he is considered one of the best tennis players of the Open Era.
In addition, together with the Chilean team, he played Davis Cup and won the Team World Cup in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2003. He was also recognized by the current National Sports Institute as the best Chilean athlete of the 20th century.
Congratulations, @ MarceloRios75! 🎂
