The elimination of River Plate against Palmeiras in the CONMEBOL Libertadores left many controversies to review due to the performance of the referee and the VAR.
As usual, CONMEBOL released the audios between Esteban Ostojich and the VAR team, in three key plays where technology had preponderance in the game.
The first action was the annulled goal to Gonzalo Montiel, by an offside by Rafael Santos Borré for a light touch of the ball by Enzo Pérez, at the start of the play. This review delayed the meeting for several minutes.
The second play was the no penalty on Matías Suárez. Ostojich first charged a foul on the River forward, but on the recommendation of the VAR, he reviewed the play and determined that there was no infraction.
The last action was the play at the end of the match where there could have been a penalty on Borré, but after a long review in the repetitions, Girotti’s advanced position was perceived at the beginning of the play.
