14 times champion is a phrase that Stéphane Peterhansel I would never have thought to listen to his first motorcycle title in 1991. The Frenchman arrived with a Yamaha YZE750T to the dunes of the old African route, which ran from Paris and closed in the city of Dakar, to get some victory. However, at 55 he proved that he is still the greatest legend of the most difficult race in the world and returned to finish in first place.
After two difficult weeks, with changes in the standings and with stages that put all his experience to the test, Stéphane Peterhansel was the one who spent the least time completing the 12 stages. With a podium of experienced drivers, the Frenchman made the most of the best car in the Bivouac, the MINI of the team XRaid, composed of engine legends.
Finally the Dakar Rally came to an end. This Friday the last special stage took place, which lasted approximately two hours. The winner was the Spanish Carlos Sainz, which without the pressure of fighting for the first place in the general classification, showed that it is still valid, despite the doubts of some fans, who criticized its ‘bad’ performance in the Rally.
Second finished Nasser Al-Attiyah. The Qatari had won the first stages of the race, but before the figure of Peterhansel he could not discount. The Frenchman was the third on Friday, and he sentenced history in his favor. The last day was a formality, since ‘Monsieur Dakar’ had achieved a good advantage before starting at dawn.
Stéphane Peterhansel claimed his 14th title. In his history he has 6 in motorcycles and 8 in cars. The Frenchman accumulated 44h 28m, taking almost 14 minutes to Al-Attiyah, who was second in the final classifier of the competition. The podium was closed by the Spanish Carlos Sainz, who was just over an hour behind the champion of the category.
