(EFE) – Manchester City reaffirmed its status as a contender for the Premier title after beating Crystal Palace (4-0) and being two points behind Manchester United, leader of the competition that reached the nineteenth day.
Pep Guardiola’s team added their fifth successive win at the Etihad Stadium. No one has been more regular than City in the last month and that has made them the main threat to their neighbor despite the irregular start to the season.
Manchester City did not waste the tie at Anfield between Liverpool and United that keeps Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s team at the top but narrows the distance from the pursuers and increases the string of title contenders.
It was a resounding victory for Guardiola’s team that opened the scoring with a goal from central John Stones who headed a Kevin De Bruyne cross to beat Spaniard Vicente Guaita.
He extended the lead at the beginning of the second half through the German Ilkay Gundogan and sentenced him in 68, again thanks to Stones, attentive to a rebound from Guaita after a shot from Portuguese Rubén Dias. Raheem Sterling sealed the win in 88.
The triumph leaves Manchester City second in the table, tied with Leicester, one point ahead of Liverpool and just two points ahead of Manchester United.
