Confirmed news, but without a definite reason. Steve Johnson will not play any tournament in February and therefore will be absent from the Australian Open. It is presumed that the reason would be that he is infected with COVID-19.
The removal of Johnson, currently No. 75 in the ATP world ranking and former 21st, was known this Monday and thus another winner of official competitions was added to the Melbourne list.
Johnson had participated in the Australian Open in the previous eight years and his best performances date back to 2015 and 2016, when in both cases he reached the third round. Meanwhile, he was fired five times in the debut.
It is estimated that the specific cause of this absence will be known shortly, but in the middle there is talk of a possible new case of coronavirus in the professional circuit.
