Plans are being advanced to carry out the Miami Masters 1000 at Hard Rock Stadium from March 22 to April 4, but it will be with some modifications due to the pandemic.
The tournament organizers sent a notice to the last year’s ticket holders announcing the elimination of center court. All games will be played on the outdoor courts and the soccer stadium will serve as the center court.
A decision will be made in the coming weeks regarding spectator attendance at the outdoor courts. I know It would allow 20 percent capacity (between 12,500 and 14,000 fans).
The Miami Open, one of the main tournaments of this sport in the last 35 years, it generally attracts more than 300 thousand viewers during the two weeks. In 2019, the first year the event moved from Key Biscayne to Hard Rock Stadium, the total attendance was 388,000.
When the event was canceled last March, tournament director James Blake said: “We were eager to host another world-class event, but our priority continues to be the health and safety of everyone involved in the Miami Open, including the South Florida community. As a former player and now tournament director, I understand how disappointing it is for the players, fans, partners and tournament staff who worked tirelessly to prepare the site. We thank everyone for their understanding and support and we look forward to returning to Hard Rock Stadium from March 22 to April 4, 2021. “
