Palmeiras vs. UANL - Match Report - February 7, 2021

Tigres achieved a historic victory by defeating Palmeiras 1-0 to become the first Mexican club to advance to the final of the Club World Cup.

The cats created danger in the Amazon team’s cabin through Carlos González from minute 3 with a header, but goalkeeper Wevertorn had a timely intervention to prevent the fall of his cabin.

Palmeiras folded his lines before a Tigres team that sought to impose their style on the pitch, but when attacking they could not decipher the scheme imposed by the South American team.

The ‘verdao’ generated its first dangerous arrival at 17 minutes, when Rony took the ball from the left side and from outside the area threw, but goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán was attentive to reject.

Gradually, Palmeiras improved in their performance and looked more disturbing, they sought to harm the UANL team’s cabin, but everything was left to the effort of their players.

An intense fight took place in the midfield, after both tables struggled to seize the ball and the plays in the areas were scarce, so the scoreboard remained without movements.

André-Pierre Gignac had two clear options to open the board, one with a shot inside the box and another with a header, but goalkeeper Weverton had the right interventions in both to prevent the Mexican team from taking the lead.

Tigres went in search of the advantage in the second half and it was in the 53rd minute that he achieved 1-0 through a penalty executed by Gignac, which was scored after Luan García fouled Paraguayan Carlos González in the area.

Seeing himself down on the scoreboard, Palmeiras tried to react, but the team led by coach Ricardo Ferretti was attentive and even tried to increase the difference, but without success.

The Brazilians did not cease in their efforts to achieve the equalizer, but the cats folded their lines at times and resolved the opponent’s attacks towards the final stretch.

In the last minutes, the story did not change, the South American team continued with its push forward, but did not achieve the equalizer and in the end Tigres achieved the historic triumph that placed it in the final of the Club World Cup.
