Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, Dominic Thiem, Naomi Osaka, Alexander Zverev, Simona Halep, Stan Wawrinka, Garbiñe Muguruza and Diego Schwartzman are just some of the names that will take to the pitch on Day 3 of Australian Open action.
As “ladies first”, it should be mentioned that Serena, at Rod Laver Arena, will try the second step in Melbourne against Nina Stojanovic and, in the same stadium hours later, the Japanese Osaka will host a vibrant duel with Caroline Garcia.
At Margaret Court they will take to the field: Aryna Sabalenka (vs. Daria Kasatkina), Petra Kvitova (vs. Sorana Cirstea) and Simona Halep (vs. Ajla Tomljanovich).
Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek will meet Camila Giorgi; Garbiñe Muguruza should have no problems with Liudmila Samsonova and, in a duel of experienced players, Venus Williams will face Sara Errani.
Among the gentlemen the action will not slacken. Djokovic, the world’s number one, goes against Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev vs. the young Frenchman Maxime Cressy. Both at the Rod Laver Arena.
Thiem will play with a namesake: Dominik Koepfer; Wawrinka, against Marton Fucsovics; Kyrgios against Ugo Humbert; Schwartzman will take Alexandre Muller’s pulse; and Denis Shapovalov will have the public against vs. Bernard Tomic.
