The 2021 Grand Prix will be affected by the new regulations. Both the leaders of the Formula 1, with Stefano Domenicali in the lead, as teams want weekends to be more attractive. In this way, several changes in the regulations were voted this Thursday, among which is the implementation of the ‘sprint races’.
This measure generated controversy among the most conservative fans. Many assure that the arrival of this new format for the different weekends will alter the famous classification of Saturdays. Without a doubt, the second day of each race that took place in 2020 were the most exciting moments of the season. Although one more step is missing for the format to be confirmed, everyone gave the go-ahead and approved the measure.
This Thursday the ‘Sprint Races’ were approved to be implemented on an experimental basis in 2021. This would be carried out in three races of the season, which according to various media would be in Imola, Canada and Brazil. The classification, determined by the ‘Sprint’ grid, would be on Friday. The sprint race would be on Saturday, and the conventional race on Sunday.
Saturday’s results would determine the places on the grid for Sunday’s race. This would be one hour long (approximate) and would deliver half the points of the conventional race. For example, the winning driver would get 12.5 points on Saturday, while on Sunday they would own 25 units. As announced from the FIA, this will be confirmed before the start of the championship. In addition, the engine freeze and the confirmation of the Portuguese Grand Prix.
