Rugby Europe confirmed the dates of the 2021 edition of the Men’s XV Rugby Europe Championship, which will mark the beginning of the qualification for Rugby World Cup 2023 in the European region. The new season will start on March 6 and 7 of the current year with the defender of the title, Georgia, who will travel to Portugal; while Russia will host Romania.
Still It remains to define the sixth participant who will come out of the playoffs between Belgium and the Netherlands. The 2021 and 2022 European Rugby Championships will offer two direct qualification spots for the Rugby World Cup 2023 to the top two ranked teams in March 2022, with the third ranked team going to the final global qualifying playoff tournament.
The competition will continue until March with an adapted program due to Covid-19 and the postponement of the playoff between Belgium and the Netherlands, which will be played before June 13. The winner of this match will play all their REC 2021 matches during the July and November international windows, which will mark the conclusion of REC 2021.
