Andy Murray fell in the final of the Challenger of Biella against the Ukrainian Illya Marchenko by 6-2 and 6-4. It was the Scotsman’s first tournament in 2021 after dropping off the Delray Beach ATP 250 and the Australian Open.
The former world No. 1 fell to the experienced Ukrainian (33 years old) who currently ranks 212th in the ranking. Marchenko became 49th in the world in 2016 and this was his third match against Murray: in the previous two, both at the Australian Open (2011 and 2017), the Scotsman won in straight sets.
Murray started the week at 125th in the rankings and moved up six spots to 119th.
