Leopoldo Jacinto Luque, world champion in 1978 and glory of Argentine soccer, died on Monday, February 15, 2021 at the age of 71.

Luque, one of the great legends of the Argentine National Team, was hospitalized in recent weeks at the Cuyo Clinic, in the province of Mendoza, with a delicate state of health.

On December 29 of last year he was diagnosed with coronavirus and until January 4 he remained stable, but that day they detected a bilateral pneumonia that complicated his picture.

Arisen from the inferiors of Unión de Santa Fe, Luque played in Primera between 1973-1975 and 1981. He was also DT of Tatengue in 1986.

He played 207 games with the River shirt, with which he scored 84 goals and won five titles. In addition, since 2017 he worked in the Club’s Recruitment Area.
