Belgium continues to lead the FIFA ranking of national teams, ahead of France and Brazil, and Spain occupies the sixth place in the first list of 2021, which does not experience changes with respect to the previous one in its first thirty positions.
The top 32 positions remain unchanged since the end of 2020. Europe and Latin America share the top ten positions: Belgium (1,780 points), France (1,755), Brazil (1,743), England (1,670), Portugal (1,662), Spain (1,645), Argentina (1,642), Uruguay (1,639), Mexico (1,632) and Italy (1,625).
To prepare the ranking, FIFA has taken into account 43 matches of senior teams (including one played in December 2020).
The most important competition in recent weeks has been the African Nations Championship (CHAN), with 32 matches played, which, like the remaining 11 matches, are considered as friendly matches, since only players participating in CHAN They are active in the national leagues of the contending countries.
Morocco (33rd, +2), winner of CHAN, and Mali (54th, +3), runner-up, have signed the biggest progressions.
Among the other teams that have improved their position in February is Costa Rica (50th, +1), which is back in the top 50.
The fight for first place will be sharpened this year with the great championships looming on the horizon (America’s Cup, Eurocup and Gold Cup), and with the resumption of the qualifying phase for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
