(EFE) .- Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 this Saturday and revived the race for the leadership of the Bundesliga to which Leipzig also aspires, who visit Hertha Berlin on Sunday and could be only two points behind the champion .
Eintracht, with Luka Jovic as the starter but substituted at match time, is the best team in the second round of the competition. It maintains its sweet moment, settled in the Champions League zone. They are fourth in the table tied with third, Wolfsburg, two behind Leipzig and seven points behind the lead.
Bayern, which will face Lazio next week in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, came into the game with a series of casualties, including those of Thomas Müller and Benjamin Pavard, both positive for coronavirus.
Hansi Flick opted to start with Erich Maxim Choupo-Moting at the midfielder, instead of Müller, and Niklas Süle as right-back to cover Pavard’s loss.
Without Müller, Bayern are another team. With much less mobility and variety in the offensive part and more predictable for rivals and Robert Lewandowski always suffers with the absence of who has become his ideal partner.
Behind, Bayern suffered above all in the band where Pavard should be and Süle was, whose natural position is the center of defense.
In the 12th Kostic won the area, after a good pass from Armin Younes through a gap left by Süle and Leroy Sané, and put the ball to the center where Kamada put his leg to score.
Eintracht’s advantage goal reflected what was happening on the pitch. Eintracht had come out with the aggressiveness and confidence that 10 games without losing gave them – 8 wins and 2 draws – and surpassed Bayern on all fields.
In the 15 Younes. Seeing Neuer ahead, he tried to surprise him with a Vaseline from the middle of the field that came out slightly off the track but that was a sign that Eintracht was far from having excess respect.
In the 31st, again Younes, received a ball inside the area, again from the left, and, after a cut, released a shot that slipped through the square and left Neuer with no option. Until then there had been virtually no offensive news from Bayern and Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp had been little more than a spectator.
Trapp’s first action came in minute 34, when he had to deflect a ball that went towards the goal after a defender tried to block a Kingsley Coman cross. Later he had to grab a shot from outside the area by Joshua Kimmich and then react to Coman’s second shot, who had the rebound-
Bayern’s improvement continued in the second half. He closed the gap at the start of the second half after a great individual play by Sané that ended with a cross to Lwandowski for him to define from the edge of the small area.
The second half in general was Bayern who improved a lot against an Eintracht that lost steam. The chances of a tie were given, one of the clearest was Coman, who finished off at 70 to center Sané from the left.
However, Bayern did not reach the draw and ended up conceding their third defeat in the Bundesliga season – the other two had been against Hoffenheim and Borussia Mönchengladbach – just before playing the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League against Lazio.
