(ESPN.com) – River Plate beat Rosario Central 3-0, in the match for the second round of the League Cup in Zone A. On their return to Monumental, the team led by Marcelo Gallardo was superior and won thanks to the goals of Rafael Santos Borré, Gonzalo Montiel and Nicolás De La Cruz.
The scorer Santos Borré opened the scoring in the 36th minute of the first half. After a play prepared from the corner kick, Paulo Díaz lowered it to the Colombian striker who pushed it to the back of the net.
At the start of the second half, at 10 minutes, referee Fernando Rapallini saw a hand from Laso inside the Rosario Central area and charged a penalty. Gonzalo Montiel kicked it perfectly and stretched the advantage for River.
Just two minutes later, Rosario Central was left with one less player due to the expulsion of Joan Mazzaco. The young central defender hit Nicolás de la Cruz hard and saw the direct red.
It was precisely De la Cruz who scored River’s third goal and settled the match in the 64th minute. The Uruguayan midfielder tried with a long-distance shot that deflected into a rival and complicated goalkeeper Jorge Broun.
The match ended 3-0 and River achieved its first win in the championship.
