Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt spoke after suffering a heavy knockout in his defense of the WBC super featherweight title against Oscar Valdez.
“I want everyone to know that I’m fine, it just wasn’t my night,” he commented after the match. “Without a doubt, it hurts my soul how it all ended, but that’s how it is, win or lose. It is not the first time that I fall. And I’m sure I’ll come back stronger. Thanks to everyone who cared ”.
At the end of the fight, a personal friend of Miguel recorded him smiling and optimistic at the hotel, hours after he was discharged from the hospital.
The Scorpion opened the fight as a favorite up to 4 to 1 over Valdez, but the result ended up surprising more than one in the MGM Grand and around the world. Berchelt he fell in the fourth and ninth innings, before finally succumbing in the tenth and no longer getting up.
His fall in the 10th round left him on the mat for several minutes, raising concerns about his health. Berchelt he recovered and was able to stand up. A subsequent check-up at the hospital assured that he had not suffered any major damage, as he learned Jake Donovan of BoxingScene.com.
Berchelt saw his streak of 17 wins in a row cut short in which he beat several former champions as Francisco Vargas or japanese Takashi miura Y Jason Sosa. His last defeat was in 2014 against Eduardo Flores.
Valdéz sent him a prompt recovery message
After the epic fight between the two Mexican boxers, Oscar Valdez recognized the effort of Scorpion and he dedicated a few emotional words to his account Twitter.
“I want to wish the best to Scorpion BercheltI’m sure he can be world champion again because he is a true warrior, I only have respect for him, ”he wrote. “I hope you return to the ring soon champion, speedy recovery.”
