Jorge Sampaoli announced his departure from the technical direction of Athletic Mineiro by means of an emotional letter, in which he expressed: “I have the nostalgia of not having been able to direct with the full stadium“.
“The end has come. Thursday will be the last game. I leave with the nostalgia of not being able to direct with a full stadium. I know we are very excited. I wanted to live the videos I had seen of a crooked (swollen) supporting non-stop“said the coach who will finish his work this Thursday against Palmeiras.
“I want to thank the entire club. To the players, for their dedication. To all the employees of the institution, for leaving their soul in this project. To the managers, for giving us great conditions to be able to work. To the city, for treating us as well“added the DT born in Casilda, Santa Fe province.
“We didn’t just set out to win: we tried to make them happy“wrote the former Chile and Argentina coach, whose team is in 3rd place in the Brasileirao, with no chances for the title, at a final date.
The 60-year-old Argentine coach had a contract with the Brazilian club until the end of 2021 and there is speculation with his arrival at Olympique de Marseille, where he would replace the Portuguese André Villas-Boas.
