(EFE) – A goal from Gabonese Pierre Emerick Aubameyang two minutes from the end gave the victory against Benfica to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, with Dani Ceballos, Héctor Bellerín and Martin Odegaard as starters, who made it through to the round of 16 of the Europa League (3-2).
The African striker was the savior of the ‘Gunners’, who drew one goal in the first leg but had the score against until the final stretch in the match played at the Georgios Karaiskakis stadium, which was this Wednesday the venue of the London team due to mobility restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
Aubameyang put Arsenal ahead in the twentieth minute, but shortly before half-time Diogo Goncalves, with a direct free-kick, leveled.
After the break, the Portuguese team took the lead thanks to Rafa Silva.
Arteta reacted. He removed Ceballos and Emilie Smith Rowe from the field and admitted Willian and Thomas at game time. Four minutes later he tied thanks to Kieran Tierney on a pass from Willian.
The draw was not enough and Aubameyang appeared again to beat the Brazilian Helton three minutes from time after a pass from Bukayo Saka. Arsenal will be in the round of 16.
