The “King of offload”, Sonny Bill Williams, showed himself in his networks with his boxing gloves on and training for a new fight. “The new journey begins,” he wrote next to the photo.
As reported by New Zealand media, The former All Blacks star is interested in making a return to boxing in a move that could see him don his gloves at least twice this year.
SBW hasn’t fought professionally since 2015, but with his one-year contract with the Sydney Roosters now expired, it appears he’s eager to explore other professional avenues.
Apparently New Zealander’s agent Khoder Nasser is currently working on a two-fight deal with which SBW could take on AFL legend-turned-boxer Barry Hall.
“Sonny is very excited about the idea of fighting Barry, Khoder tells me,” Hall’s promoter Danny Green told The Sydney Morning Herald.
“Both guys don’t want to lose to each other. They’ve both requested to have a fight beforehand, so why don’t we put them on the same show?
“It’s great from an audience perspective and ensures that both athletes are in top condition when they fight each other. The fact that Sonny Bill is going to play another sport again is going to create a lot of noise and a lot of excitement because he is a monster. The fact that these two giants are going to go in there and do it is very exciting, “he commented.
The 35-year-old Williams certainly has what it takes to make his return to boxing truly special. As for the 44-year-old Hall, he is well known among Australian sports fans and has proven to be a neat boxer in the past.
