Boca had no mercy against Vélez. In a great match played in Liniers, the xeneize thrashed 7-1 to Mauricio Pellegrino’s team and incidentally caught on among those at the top of the table, in Zone B of the Professional League Cup.
A historic and unexpected result considering that the xeneize did not arrive in its best version, after beating only 2 to 1 to Claypole, a team recently promoted to the First C, for the Argentine Cup.
It was also not good what Boca showed in the local tournament, where he had drawn at home against Gimnasia and Sarmiento, leaving a pale image.
The game was even until the visitor scored the third goal, 8 minutes into the match. From there Vélez collapsed, gave away spaces and Boca took advantage of the hierarchy of many of his players to seal a lapidary result.
Cardona had opened the scoring, with a free kick, at 21 minutes of play. The Colombian was one of the great figures of the game, handling the ball and assisting his teammates. Unlike other games, he had a lot of freedom in the middle of the field.
On a temporary basis, Lucero had scored the tie at 26, after a good play on the right of the xeneize defense. But a few minutes later, Cardona gave Villa a great pass and the forward, after eliminating the goalkeeper, made it 2 to 1.
Thus ended the first stage, where Andrada stood out for a couple of interventions that could end in a goal from El Fortín.
Vélez dominated at the start of the complement and nothing made us imagine the final result. But after Villa’s 3 to 1, after another great play on the left and an excellent definition from the Colombian, the match was another.
Two minutes later, Villa took a great shot from outside the area, the ball hit the post and left Maroni for 4 to 1. There were barely 10 minutes of the second half.
Boca continued in search of the rival arch and did not forgive a bewildered rival. Tevez, who returned to start after the death of his father, scored the 5-1 in the 17th minute. There was time for Maroni’s sixth at 29 minutes after a good team move, and for a great stack by Campuzano that was going to seal, already in the end, the 7 to 1.
Undoubtedly Boca won a victory that leaves him relieved for what is coming, since next Sunday he will play the superclassic against River in La Bombonera.
But you should not trust or think that a result as positive as this Sunday will leave behind the doubts that the team has been having in 2021. In any case, it must ratify this performance against tougher rivals in the brand and who tend to take refuge closer of his bow.
As a positive fact beyond the win, there is the fact that at times and with spaces, going fast against, Boca looked like the champion of the first quarter of 2020, when he snatched the title from River on the last date.
There was a very good performance by Colombians Cardona and Villa, with other performances that accompanied such as those of Tevez, Maroni and Campuzano.
As issues to improve, there is Capaldo’s side position, who on the right wing is not comfortable. That’s where Vélez’s goal came. Once again, the team suffered from above and at times was outmatched in the middle of the court, where Campuzano was left very alone. In any case, the presence of the 18-year-old kid Medina is a dose of oxygen for that sector of the field.
Boca won, thrashed and left happy, as the two-time Argentine soccer champion had not been seen for a long time. Russo, who arrived very questioned, will have a calm week, no less than a few days before the superclassic. It is no small thing.
