Daniil Medvedev won the Marseille title after beating Herbert in the final by 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-4. It is the tenth title of the Russian, who from Monday March 15 will be No. 2 in the world.
Medvedev claimed his first individual title of 2021, having enshrined his ATP Cup with Russia and lost the Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic.
At the age of 25, the Russian is experiencing the best moment of his career and from Monday March 15 will be the 2nd in the world, replacing Rafael Nadal. No player outside the Big 4 has achieved that ranking in the last 15 years.
For his part, Herbert (29 years old, 93rd in the world) lost the fourth final of his career. The previous ones had been in Winston-Salem 2015, Shenzhen 2018 and Montpellier 2019. He does not have ATP titles.
