Argentine midfielder Martín Benítez trained with San Pablo on Thursday, before being officially announced as the new signing of the Brazilian soccer club led by his compatriot Hernán Crespo.
Benítez, 26, trained normally at the Barra Funda training ground in the São Paulo capital, along with the rest of his teammates, waiting for the last fringes of his hiring to be resolved.
His incorporation into the work dynamics of the Tricolor de Morumbí was possible thanks to the authorization of the Argentine Independiente, holder of the player’s federative rights, and of the Vasco da Gama of Rio de Janeiro, where he played on loan last season.
If his signing is confirmed, Benítez will join attacker Bruno Rodrigues, central defender Miranda, former Atlético de Madrid and Inter Milan player, and Colombian full-back Luis Manuel Orejuela, as the team’s most recent additions for the 2021 campaign.
Sao Paulo was currently contesting the Paulista Championship, the tournament that brings together the most important teams in the state of Sao Paulo, but the advance of the new coronavirus pandemic forced the authorities to suspend its celebration for 15 days.
Brazil is currently going through the worst phase of the new coronavirus pandemic and, so far, accumulates almost 11.7 million cases and 285,000 deaths, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
