The former NBA giant, Shawn bradley, announced in the last hours what he suffered on January 20 of this year through an official statement from his former team, Dallas mavericks. The retired 2.29-meter basketball player was hit by a car on his back while riding a bicycle one block from his home in Utah, United States.
“The accident resulted in a traumatic spinal cord injury that left him paraplegic. After undergoing neck fusion surgery, Bradley has spent the past eight weeks hospitalized and undergoing rehabilitation.”, reads the statement.
Bradley, one of the tallest players in NBA history, was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers as number two in the 1993 Draft, but spent most of his career with the Mavs. “Doctors have told him that his road to recovery will be long and arduous, perhaps a physical challenge even more difficult than playing professional basketball.” the text continues.
Shawn is in a good mood “He plans to use his accident as a platform to create greater public awareness of the importance of cyclist safety.”. His fans also remember him for his participation in the famous Michael Jordan movie Space Jam: he was one of the players who lost their powers, along with Barkley, Ewing, Bogues and Larry Johnson.
Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, showed his full support: “We are saddened to hear of Shawn’s accident. He has always been incredibly determined and has shown a fighting spirit. We wish him the best in his recovery. He will always be a part of our Mavs family.”
