Marc Márquez confirmed that he will not be present in the first two dates of the 2021 championship of MotoGP. The injury produced in the Spanish Grand Prix prevented him from competing throughout the last season. However, this is not something new for Márquez, who knows very well about recovery processes and physical difficulties to compete at the highest level.
During the season 2011, more precisely in the Malaysian Grand Prix, Márquez suffered a spectacular fall that caused serious problems for his vision. The medical diagnosis was not very good: “Paralysis of the right superior oblique muscle, due to involvement of the 4th right cranial nerve, of traumatic origin”, said the doctors of the category.
However, Marquez would not give up. At the end of that season, the Spaniard had his vision operated on. This caused him to miss the entire preseason of 2012, and reach the Qatar Grand Prix of that year (still competing in Moto2) without having ridden a single lap on his motorcycle. Despite these difficulties, Márquez showed why he is one of the best riders in the history of motorcycling.
Although he did not go up to turn in the previous one, Márquez surprised everyone. He faced the 2012 Qatar Grand Prix, in Moto2, and not only did he have an incredible recovery, he also won the race from end to end. That year would be successful for him. Champion of the category, to be promoted to MotoGP. The rest is known history: World Champion of the highest division in his debut year and with the team Repsol Honda.
Marc’s return to the slopes this season has yet to be confirmed. The Spaniard had planned to return this weekend. But after some tests, the doctors who treat him decided that it was still not optimal for this path to be taken. The next news about his return will be decided on April 12, the date on which the medical board will decide if the Grand Prix of Portugal is the one to return.
