Miami: Cilic beat Garin and there are no more Chileans

Marin Cilic imposed his hierarchy and beat Cristian Garin by 3-6, 7-5 and 7-6 (5), a triumph that places him in the third round of the Miami Masters 1000. His next rival will be Lorenzo Musetti, who has just beaten Benoit Paire.

If the first set was somewhat tight for Garin, it was because he could not capitalize on the break points he generated: out of 10, he only got two. An incredible figure that gave hope to the Croatian, although finally the Chilean planted himself in the back of the court in a solid way and took him away in 44 minutes of play.

When it seemed that Garin had a good chance of staying with the game, since I was 5-4 up in the second set, Cilic established himself on the net and bet on a game based on his volleys. The strategy worked for the experienced 32-year-old tennis player and they went to third.

In the decisive partial, the Croat brought out his service and was left with the victory. In this way, the record was 2-0 in favor of Cilic, who had also beaten him at Queen’s Club 2019 by 6-1 and 7-6 (5).

With the defeat of Garin, who came from being champion in Santiago, Chilean hopes are over: the two tennis players who were in the table were eliminated, since Alejandro Tabilo also lost in the first round to Mikael Ymer.
