The second category jumped onto the track in search of the best times. However, the conditions of the Losail circuit left much to be desired, since the extreme heat that reached 38 degrees, the wind and the desert sand, made the piloting very difficult. The young drivers tried to accelerate to the maximum and the test went smoothly.
Baltus, who made the great leap of his career by advancing to Moto2 after a good season in Moto3, came to this with hope Qatar Grand Prix. The Dutchman, just 16 years old, had a very hopeful preseason, fighting with the most important drivers in the division. However, this Saturday everything was spoiled.
In the first corner of the Qatari circuit, Baltus accelerated more than it should have, causing the bike to do the famous ‘highside’. While trying to control the machine, Baltus flew off his motorcycle, in an accident very similar to the one he had Marc Márquez in it Spanish Grand Prix of 2020, which caused him to fracture his right shoulder.
The consequences of the accident were not very different for Baltus. After a general check-up, which confirmed that his general condition is good, he was physically checked. There it was found that the Moto2 rider suffered a fracture in his left wrist, for which he was declared unfit to race for the remainder of the Grand Prix weekend.
