This weekend Lewis hamilton took a new victory in the Formula 1. The Brit was able to beat Max verstappen, in a controversial career that had everything. However, the Mercedes driver overcame a new record, which, like the one with the highest number of victories, belonged to Michael Schumacher for more than 15 years.
Hamilton surpassed Schumacher as the driver with the most laps led in Formula 1 history. The Briton added a total of 5,126 laps led in Grand Prix, against 5,111 by Michael Schumacher. The third place is occupied by Sebastian vettel, which in total has 3,495. Of the top ten there are three drivers who are still in the category. Besides Vettel and Hamilton, Fernando Alonso is the ninth, with 1,716.
Hamilton exceeds year after year the records of the highest category. Last year I beat Schumacher in number of victories. With that of this weekend, that of Mercedes he reached 96 victories in his sports career with 166 podiums. In addition, he equaled the former pilot of Ferrari, with seven World Championships.
In recent years, Hamilton has achieved six of the last seven titles. 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 are the years in which Hamilton took first place in the driver rankings. Mercedes meanwhile, has 7 consecutive championships. However, it is far from the most winning team, which is Ferrari with 14 crowns, the last in 2008 (it lost the drivers ‘title but won the constructors’ title).
Last weekend, the seven-time champion took the victory. Nevertheless, this first place was involved in much controversy, since his fight with Max verstappen was involved in an ‘illegal’ overtaking, according to the sports commissioners of the race and the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
