BARCELONA – Joan Laporta plans to accelerate in the coming weeks, in direct collaboration with the future general director of Barcelona Ferran Reverter, a renewal proposal to present Leo Messi, sources close to the Barça president admitted to ESPN Deportes and confirming the advance news by TV3, regarding the intentions of the club to convince the Argentine star with a proposal in accordance with his figure and attending, at the same time, the current situation of the entity.
Laporta learned during the meeting that he held with his Board of Directors on Tuesday about the financial reality of the club, even more delicate than the initial forecasts and that could lead to losses close to 350 million euros at the end of this season, a scenario that will force a drastic cut in expenses, with the salary bill of the first team on stage, and especially difficult negotiations with the footballers.
In this sense, the case of Leo is considered “special”, it is emphasized from the club, assuming that there is full confidence in the good predisposition of the player in conversations that, in any case, have not started yet.
From the captain’s environment, Jorge Messi has no scheduled date to travel to Barcelona, not ruling out that he could do so in the coming weeks, and that no proposal has been transferred from Barça, beyond the expressions of affection that Laporta, in first person, has already had with the footballer.
WIN WITH HAALAND
However, Messi has already been able to verify how the president has entered the club with the willingness to give him a push of the first magnitude, as was staged this Thursday, when a meeting with Mino Raiola was discovered to begin to deal, already in a way undisguised, the desired signing of Erling Haaland.
The Argentine star, beyond economic aspects, considers it essential to establish a clear and ambitious sports project for the next season and in this sense the incorporation of a footballer of the significance of the Norwegian would be an indisputable sign.
Willing as Laporta is to make an extra effort to secure the signing of Haaland and win Messi’s yes to his continuity, the task of reducing the salary mass of the squad will be an equally complicated challenge and on which the club is already focused with the eyes set on the immediate future.
