Face and mint for two Argentines on the opening day of the ATP 250 in Marbella. At the beginning of the European brick dust tour, Federico Felbonis advanced to the round of 16 at the Andalusian Open, while Juan Ignacio Londero was already fired.
In the third and last turn of the main court of the Spanish tournament, Delbonis, seeded eighth, defeated local Roberto Carballés Baena 7-5 and 6-1.
The Azulean showed a high level, was solid and in general dominated the homeowner, managing the points with his left foot and with some good rises to the net.
In the next round, Delbonis will face the Slovak Norbert Gombos, precisely Londero’s executioner, at the end of court 4, 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-3. That was the first crossing between the European and the Albiceleste in the professional circuit.
For his part, Delbonis went ahead 4-0 in the history against Carballés, always in duels on slow courts in these four years, with one crossing for each of the last seasons. In total, the Argentine only gave up one set against that Spaniard.
He will have a rest day and then he will face Gombos for the first time. If he wins again, Delbonis will meet the fourth-seeded Spanish Albert Ramos Viñolas or the Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis in the quarterfinals.
