Guido Pella returned to the circuit in the ATP of Sardinia after almost two months of absence. The Argentine did not have the expected debut and fell 6-4 and 6-0 against Egor Gerasimov.
After playing the ATP Cup (win over Nishioka, loss to Rublev), Pella lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Borna Coric on February 8. He was registered with the Córdoba ATP and started as one of the favorites but tested positive for coronavirus in the test prior to entering the bubble. That deprived him of the Latin American tour and his return took place in Sardinia, at the start of the European brick dust season.
Pella, 48th in the world and 7th seed in the tournament, lost to Belarusian Gerasimov 6-4 6-0. Gerasimov would be one of Argentina’s rivals in the next Davis Cup phase.
The Argentine will continue on his way to the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000, starting next Monday.
