Hubert Hurkacz became champion of the 2021 Miami Masters 1000, after defeating Jannick Sinner in the final 7-6 (4) and 6-4. It is the most important title in the Polish career.
The Pole got off to a furious start in the final: 3-0 up. The young Italian could not find his shots, he made unforced errors and Hurkacz made the most of them.
But Sinner woke up, Sinner turned the story around and got 6-5. The Pole broke, the story went to a tiebreaker and the more experienced of the two (Hurkacz, 24 years old) took it 7-4.
In the second set, the story was more intense: 4-0 for the Pole and a double break chance. Of that almost 0-5, Sinner armed himself to go 3-4. Each held their serve until the close and Hurkacz claimed the first Masters 1000 title of his career.
The Pole was 37th in the world until this Sunday and had won two titles (Winston-Salem 2019 and Delray Beach 2021); from Monday he will be 16th, the best ranking of his entire career.
