The Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana changes its format and its group stage is drawn

The Copa CONMEBOL Sudamericana changes its format from the 2021 edition and this Friday, in Luque, live on ESPN, its group stage is drawn.

For the first time, the contest will have a stage by zones, like the Libertadores, but the difference is that only the leader of each group will qualify for the round of 16.

The cups for the draw will be divided according to the CONMEBOL ranking, with the best eight in number 1, the next four in number 2 and so on. And, as in the other cup, two teams from the same country should not cross each other in the groups, except that it is a club that comes from the playoffs, which are finalized this Thursday.

The group stage will be played from mid-April to the end of May, where the tournament will have a break for the Copa América. And it will resume in July with the round of 16 -where the third of the Libertadores groups will be added-, fourth in August and semifinals in September. The definition will be on November 6.
