This season the Dakar rally gave surprising results. In the different categories, the champions were some pilots who did not have too many expectations in the previous one, but with the passing of the stages they were consolidating their candidacy. In Motorcycles, Kevin Benavides managed to keep the famous trophy, after several years of fighting in the most difficult race in the world.
However, the Rally seems not to be over, at least for the teams. Once the test is over, the teams already start working to prepare the cars and different structures for next year. The pilots continue their daily lives, and at the same time they train and along with their team, they also prepare the competition for the rest of the year, and the next edition of the Dakar.
The Argentine who won the Motorcycle test, Kevin Benavides, gave a news that surprised everyone. After several years with the team Sling, Benavides made the decision to switch to KTM to contest the 2022 edition of the Dakar Rally. Together with the Japanese brand he achieved his only victory in the race and will move to KTM after five years with Honda. This was confirmed by the pilot himself on Wednesday.
«I am very excited to join the team Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, it’s a big change for me. As a Dakar champion, this change marks an important new chapter in my sporting career. I have always been a fan of KTM motorcycles, Red Bull (Sponsor of motorcycles), and how the team is organized ”, declared Benavides this Wednesday.
On the other hand, the Argentine commented that he will seek to revalidate the title next year with his new team. “Looking ahead to next year, the objective would be to win two Dakar in a row. I was lucky enough to be a factory rider years ago, so being back on a KTM and in the Red Bull KTM Rally team is a dream and a true honor. I am very grateful for the opportunity, ”added Benavides.
