This Monday there was one of the most anticipated laps in recent weeks. Andrea Dovizioso He left his sabbatical, which was no more than four months, to try again a MotoGP. The Italian turned at the controls of the Aprilia and gave good feelings after a long absence. He did it at the Jerez circuit in a private test for the Italian brand.
Although the tests were not official for the category, the team Gresini Racing took advantage of the batches of the category MotoE and some tests from other teams to give Dovizioso the opportunity to test the Aprilia RS-GP. According to various media that live the day-to-day life of the MotoGP Paddock, Aprilia is Dovizioso’s great chance to race again next season, or some race this year.
Dovizioso’s lap times were fantastic. The Italian set laps of 1m39s, very close to the track record he holds Jorge Lorenzo since 2015, which is 1m38s. Several personalities of the brand were present on the Italian circuit, including its two drivers: Aleix Espargaró Y Lorenzo Savadori. The latter would be the one who would leave the team in case Dovizioso arrives.
After testing this Monday, Doviozoso assured that the Aprilia is ‘An easy bike’. It is not the first time that the former MotoGP World runner-up has worked in tests. For several years he was a tester for Sling Y Yamaha, and many believe that this year he will have that role in Aprilia. However, Doviozoso’s goals are set in 2022.
Aprilia has six races to get Dovizioso on the bike in an official competition. However, none of the leaders was encouraged to confirm what will happen to their situation. So far, both Espargaró and Savadori remain firm in their position. What’s more, Bradley smith, a test driver so far, would have priority in a replacement situation.
