The second South African line of Toulon, Eben Etzebeth He broke a finger, had surgery and will not be able to play for at least a month. Some close sources question it for the tour of the British & Irish Lions.
Etzebeth’s French club Toulon confirmed in a statement that the injury occurred during training last week.
Although Toulon has not given an exact indication of when Etzebeth is expected to get back in shape, the injury is believed to keep him away for several weeks.
Early estimates suggested that the second line would only stand for four weeks, but it is now believed that it could be significantly longer than that.
Etzebeth’s injury is not good news for Springboks coaches Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber. He joins RG Snyman and Lood de Jager on an ever-growing list of injuries on the roster.
