Manchester United vs. Granada - Party Report - April 15, 2021

MANCHESTER – Manchester United curtailed Granada’s hopes of continuing to fatten up their European adventure. A goal by Edinson Cavani at the start of the game and another by Vallejo on his own goal in the discount, diluted the dream of the Andalusians, who fell on their feet at Old Trafford (2-0).

The 0-2 that the Spaniards dragged in the first leg was too big a slab for a Granada that found itself with Cavani’s lace at six minutes. On a three-touch play, Alex Telles put the ball into the box, Paul Pogba combed it headlong and Cavani, unopposed, had time to drop it and shoot with his left foot.

The bad news got worse when Maxime Gonalons had to leave in pain, Jorge Molina entering his place, but Granada stayed alive, perhaps not in the tie, for which they needed three goals, but in the match, in which they did not they lost face.

Although United was always the one that generated the most danger every time Bruno Fernandes reached the front, Diego Martínez’s men contained the English and prevented them from having a feast. Nor did the Andalusians go crazy looking for a comeback that was almost impossible. De Gea was hardly disturbed a couple of times.

Aware of the superiority of the ‘Red Devils’, Granada endured the type and forced those of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to relax. Even Germán, the captain, was able to achieve the draw in a shot at the turn that had nailed De Gea.

With the match already asleep, although there was a threat of tangana in an entrance of Herrera to Fred, there was time to return to the playing fields Juan Mata, who had not played since last February 21.

The Spanish midfielder came in with 20 minutes remaining and helped United to anesthetize the match and close out the semi-finals of the competition, causing United to score 2-0 in a header, converted by Vallejo into an own goal.

Granada left the Europa League after passing the group stage eliminated PAOK Salónia and Omonia, and after beating Naples and Molde at the crossroads. His best participation in Europe closes in the Theater of Dreams, the best possible stage, and against a rival in the history and greatness of Manchester United. The dream is over, but the memories remain.
