Roger Federer (7th) confirmed in his social networks that he will play the next tournaments of Geneva (ATP 250) Y Roland Garros, in what will be his first Grand Slam of the year, after being absent in Australia.
“Hello everyone! Happy to let you know that I will be playing in Geneva and Paris. Until then I will use the time to train. I am looking forward to playing in Switzerland again.” expressed the former world number one, who during 2021 only played the ATP 250 in Doha.
On the other hand, the Swiss will not be present at the Masters 1000 in Madrid (from May 2 to 9) as originally speculated in preparation for the best way to reach Roland Garros.
Federer will play a Grand Slam again after more than a year, since the last one he played was the 2020 Australian Open in which he reached the semifinals and lost to Novak Djokovic. His last Roland Garros was in 2019 in which he also managed to reach the semifinals but lost to Rafael Nadal. His only title in Paris It happened in 2009 when he won the decisive match against Robin Soderling in three straight sets.
As for the ATP 250 in Geneva, the Swiss will contest it for the first time in his career. In the last five editions, the winners were: Thomaz Bellucci (2015), Stan Wawrinka (2016 and 2017), Márton Fucsovics (2018) and Alex Zverev (2019).
