Gianni Infantino, FIFA boss, disapproved of the creation of the Super League and showed support for the European football model
The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, confirmed on Tuesday the firm rejection of the organization to the creation of the Super league and showed his full support for European football and UEFA during the Ordinary Congress held in Montreaux (Switzerland).
“FIFA is an organization built on sport values and can only strongly disapprove of the creation of the Super League, which is a closed shop and a break with current institutions, with leagues, with associations, and with UEFA. Let me show FIFA’s full support for European football and UEFA, “he said.
Infantino described the European football model as a success and referred to his obligation and that of all those present to protect it with “responsibility, solidarity and in the interest of national, European and global football”.
“My challenge as president is to protect this, the club competitions, the national teams … If some choose to go their own way we must let them go with consequences for their choice, they are responsible for it. They are inside or outside, each one thinks” he added.
He also stressed that UEFA and FIFA “are democratic, open organizations”, in which “everyone can speak, make proposals that can be taken into account but always with respect for institutions, leagues, associations, history and passion of many people from all over the world. “
“Football is hope and our responsibility is to make hope come true, but always with respect, and act with responsibility, solidarity and in the interest of national, European and global football,” he insisted.
