The last weekend, in Imola, Valtteri Bottas had a very strong accident after George Russell get lost while trying to overtake him. This sparked one of the biggest controversies on Sunday, as Russell blamed Bottas after the incident. However, the team leader Mercedes, Toto wolff, shot the Finn: «Is taking steps backwards«.
Far from defending the driver of his team, Wolff got tired of the poor results. To make matters worse, the one who caused the abandonment of Bottas was none other than George Russell. The now pilot of Williams is one of those appointed to replace Bottas, as he did with Lewis hamilton, in the 2020 season after the British caught the coronavirus.
Bottas is the main one pointed out by the media and some members of Mercedes, as the first ‘eliminated’ of the German team after the 2021 season. The Finn’s position was on the tightrope after Russell’s great performance in the Sakhir Grand Prize. Many point out that Russell did not win that race, because Mercedes sabotaged his performance so as not to make a fool of Bottas.
After the Imola Grand Prix, Toto Wolff spoke with the Sky Sports Italia media, and commented that they are not happy with the performance of the number 77 in the last races. “I’m not sure who is to blame for the incident, but the race did not go well for Valtteri. He is taking steps backwards ”, fired the head of the champion team.
On the other hand, Toto Wolff also criticized the Williams driver for the attitude he had after the accident that left both drivers out. Russell’s reaction has been exaggerated. For me it is a racing incident, because if you look at their points of view, they are both wrong. I don’t know what to say, ”Wolff said to close the subject.
