In the last hours a rumor began to circulate that the Spanish Grand Prix will not be part of the 2022 calendar. Miami Grand Prix, confirmed last Sunday in Imola, would be the key factor for Formula 1 to rule out the race that is run in the circuit of Barcelona. However, so far there is no official confirmation on this issue.
No Spanish GP?
The Catalan circuit made changes to its layout in recent months. The Formula 1 pilots asked the leaders of the category that one of the curves be modified, so the work began. However, this would be in vain, as the Spanish media suggest that the 2022 race would not take place and that the new Miami circuit would take its place.
The agreement between Spain and Formula 1 ends this season, so all cannons point to the fact that the race that takes place in Barcelona is the one that will leave the calendar in 2022. For its part, the contract that the category signed with the government of Miami is for 10 seasons, so several visits to the new urban layout that surrounds the Hard Rock Stadium.
“I think it is a possibility to consider (eliminate a European race), because we have to be realistic, we cannot have so many weekends in Formula 1,” said the CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, in recent statements to the Racefans.net site. The 2021 Spanish Grand Prix will take place on May 9, in Barcelona.
