Surprise in Serbia. Aslan Karatsev (28th) defeated Novak Djokovic (1st) 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4 and will play the final at the ATP 250 in Belgrade. In a match marked by the great tennis level of both players, the Russian eliminated the local and top favorite.
In an epic battle, the world’s number one added his second defeat of the season being out of the final of the tournament. Djokovic, who was already beaten at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 by Briton Daniel Evans, also on clay, ran out of options for his second title of the year after the Australian Open.
He did not survive a three and a half hour fight, his second longest best-of-three-set match of his career, behind the epic clash against Rafael Nadal in Madrid 2009.
