The British & Irish Lions confirmed that they will have their players available to play the friendly against Japan on Saturday 26 June in Murrayfield. The authorities of the British team reached an agreement with their Premiership peers for the players to be released after the domestic tournaments.
The match against the Japanese team in Edinburgh will be the only friendly that the British & Irish Lions will play before heading to South Africa, where they will have their debut, on Saturday, July 3 against Stormers, in Cape Town.
“We are very happy and grateful to Premiership Rugby and Pro14 for the session of all the players, once their commitments with the clubs are over,” said Jason Leonard, Chairman of the team that brings together the best players from England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
The British & Irish Lions will play a total of 8 matches on South African soil, among which the three test matches before the world champions, on July 24 and 31, and on August 7.
