With a double by Walter Bou, Defense and Justice beat the Peruvian Sports University 3-0 on Wednesday for the second day of Group A of CONMEBOL Libertadores, and now escorts the leader Palmeiras in the standings.
With two goals from Bou, one from a penalty, and from Francisco Pizzini, the current champion of the South American Cup achieved his first win to climb to second place with four points, behind Palmeiras, who have six points in two starts.
The University, meanwhile, added its second defeat in the same number of presentations to be at the bottom, without integers, behind the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle that adds one unit.
The match got off to an intense start with local dominance, which in the 19th minute had its first chance through a header from Walter Bou that went high.
Ten minutes later it was Bou himself who again had the opening of the scoreboard but again he lacked aim to overtake Defense.
In the 31st minute it was Aldo Corzo who had the option for Universitario but two minutes later the opening of the scoreboard for the local arrived after a connection between Bou and Pizzini, which ended with an exquisite definition of the latter by stinging it before the departure of goalkeeper José Carvallo.
Matías Rodríguez had two options before the break to widen the gap with Gabriel Hachén and Francisco Pizzini, who connected well with Bou to make up for the absence of striker Braian Romero, absent as he was positive for coronavirus.
In the second half, Universitario could have leveled the shares with an option from Hernán Novick, but in the 70th minute a center from Nahuel Gallardo found Walter Bou’s cue for an exquisite definition against a José Carvallo who could not react.
Ángel Comizzo’s team did not finish assimilating this second blow and in the 78th minute they received the third from Defense and Justice due to a penalty converted by Walter Bou after a foul by Nelinho Quina in the area.
Next week Defensa y Justicia and Palmeiras will be measured in Buenos Aires, in the reissue of the last Recopa Sudamericana, while Independiente del Valle will host the University.
