This Monday the organization of the Formula 1, in conjunction with the International Automobile Federation (FIA), approved the new format that comes to this year: sprint races. There the Grand Prix will be very different from what we are used to, since the schedule of activities on the weekends will be completely modified.
After confirming this news, this Wednesday Formula 1 confirmed that the Great Britain Grand Prix, on Silverstone, will host the first race with this Format. The race that takes place on the historic English track, will be run on the weekend of July 17, and until now, it will have the presence of the public in the stands.
In three Grand Prix of this calendar, the new format approved this Monday will be carried out. Silverstone was the first of them, but it has not yet been confirmed which will be the other two races that implement it. According to some specialized media, the Italian Grand Prix, on Monza and the Brazilian Grand Prix, on Interlagos, would be the venues that remain to be confirmed.
The new format consists of three days in which fans will experience important things. Until now, Friday’s activity was exclusively dedicated to training sessions. With these changes, every day there will be fundamental action for the development of the Grand Prix. Saturday’s sprint race will consist of 100 kilometers.
On Friday there will be a qualifying session. This will take place after the first free practice session of the weekend. The classification will be to define the starting order of the sprint race, which will be run on Saturday, after the second round of practice. The results of the sprint race will determine the start of Sunday’s race, which will be the same as usual.
