The first day of free practice of the Grand Prix of Portugal of the Formula 1 and the results surprised everyone again. Although the winners of the day did not change, several surprise candidates were added, such as Alonso, which had its best moment since his return to the top flight.
Lewis hamilton he kept the best time of the second round, although he is still concerned about the level shown on the day. Despite being the fastest, Mercedes is a notch below expected performance. Hamilton took first place after doing a lap of 1m19s873.
Max verstappen he was back in second place in training. The Dutchman was only a tenth slower than Hamilton, and kept his performance high throughout the day. Max clocked a lap of 1m19s980. For his part, Valtteri Bottas once again showed that he wants to change the performance, finishing third.
Sergio perez could not match the times of the first morning. The Mexican went from being third in free practice 1, to being in tenth place in the second half. Pérez was more than six tenths slower than Hamilton who was the fastest. Another of those who surprised with his performance was Fernando Alonso, although this one did it in a positive way.
Fernando was fifth in the second round and marked the best session of the year for the team Alpine. Not only was the Spaniard very fast, remaining three tenths behind Hamilton, but also Esteban Ocon confirmed the improvements. The Frenchman finished sixth, just behind his teammate. Alpine had confirmed that they would receive upgrades for this weekend.
